What the numbers mean

Compare film performance

Visible Light Transmission, or VLT, is the percentage of visible light that passes through the glass-and-film system. A lower VLT generally means a darker result. It does not by itself tell you how much total solar heat the film rejects. Two films with similar visible darkness can perform differently because their construction and solar properties are different.

Total Solar Energy Rejected, often shortened to TSER, considers a broader share of solar energy. Infrared-rejection figures can be useful too, but they depend on which wavelength range a manufacturer tests. A single “IR rejection” percentage without the test method is not a complete comparison. For customers focused on cabin comfort, comparing credible film data sheets is more useful than choosing the darkest sample.

UV filtering is another separate characteristic. Quality automotive films are commonly designed to reduce ultraviolet transmission, but the exact specification should come from the film manufacturer. UV rejection does not mean the glass becomes thermally efficient by itself, and a dark-looking film is not proof of strong UV or heat performance.

Film options

Choose a suitable window film

Ceramic and nano-ceramic film

Ceramic films are commonly chosen when heat rejection, optical clarity and minimal signal interference are priorities. Product performance still varies by brand and series, so the data sheet matters more than the ceramic label alone.

Carbon film

Carbon-based films can offer stable colour and useful solar performance without a strongly metallic appearance. They can be a sensible mid-range option where the customer wants a darker look with better heat control than basic dyed film.

Dyed film

Dyed film is usually selected mainly for appearance, glare reduction and privacy at a lower cost. Heat performance and long-term colour stability depend heavily on the product quality. Very cheap film can be more vulnerable to fading or colour shift.

Metalized film

Metal-containing films can reflect solar energy effectively, but some constructions may affect radio, mobile, GPS or other signals. Vehicle equipment should be considered before choosing a metallic film.

Clear or very light heat-rejection film

A light film can still be selected for solar control where a dark appearance is not the goal, subject to the product specification and permitted window application. Heat rejection and shade should be evaluated separately.

Privacy glass plus film

Factory privacy glass is already tinted within the glass. Adding film changes the combined optical result. We consider the original glass before recommending a film rather than treating every window as clear glass.

Compliance before installation

Tint limits are often repeated online as though one percentage applies to every vehicle and window. Current requirements can depend on the window, vehicle category and licensing requirements, so the intended installation should be checked against the rules that apply at the time of service.

Before installation, confirm the intended film and windows against the current requirements that apply to the vehicle. Windscreen treatment, commercial or public-transport vehicles and other regulated categories can have different restrictions. If a vehicle is being prepared for export, Dubai RTA currently states that tinting films must be removed for the export-certificate process.

If maximum darkness is the main priority, compliance should be resolved before material is cut. A workshop should not install a configuration first and leave the customer to discover a registration, inspection or enforcement problem later.

How we fit window film

We confirm the film and permitted windows, then prepare and fit it carefully. A full-car appointment takes longer than a single pane, and removing old film or working around curved glass can add time. We confirm the fitting time when arranging your visit.

  1. 01

    Inspect and quote

We check scratches, seals, existing film, sensors and original privacy glass, then confirm the film series, windows, removal and fitted price.

  2. 02

    Prepare the glass

When necessary, we remove failed tint and adhesive with care around rear demister and antenna lines. We clean the glass and edges before fitting new film.

  3. 03

    Fit and finish

The film is shaped for each window, positioned and finished around seals and edges. Curved or frameless glass needs additional care.

  4. 04

    Check and hand over

We inspect the finish, explain normal curing haze, and tell you when to lower or clean the windows for the chosen film.

Old film removal

Remove old or bubbled tint

Tint that has turned purple, developed bubbles, lifted at the edges or separated into layers has usually reached the point where removal is more useful than adding another layer over it. Double-layering a failed film can make clarity worse, complicate legal compliance and make future removal harder.

Rear-window film deserves particular care. Many vehicles use conductive lines on or in the rear glass for demisting and sometimes antenna functions. Excessive scraping can damage these lines. Removal technique depends on the film, adhesive, age and how the lines are constructed.

If the windscreen or another pane is already chipped or cracked, film work should not be used to hide the damage. Our windscreen and automotive-glass service is the right service when the glass itself needs repair or replacement.

Vehicle-specific details

Glass details that affect fitting

We check the equipment, window movement and original glass before cutting film. These details affect the edge finish, shade and work needed on your car.

Cameras and sensors

Camera housings, light and rain sensors, toll tags and antennas can limit film coverage. We keep required sight lines and equipment clear rather than cutting a continuous dark strip across them.

Frameless windows

These windows dip when a door opens and rise into the seal when it closes. Edge placement and curing advice must account for that movement.

Dot-matrix borders

Raised ceramic dots can leave a lighter-looking edge where the adhesive meets the border. We explain the likely finish before installation.

Factory privacy glass

Dark original glass does not necessarily reject heat like a solar-control film. Adding film also changes the combined visible-light transmission, so we check the starting glass first.

Everyday comfort

Comfort beyond window tint

Tint can reduce solar heat through the glass. The best choice also protects the view you need at night and suits the way you use the car.

If the cabin stays unusually hot after tinting, we can check other causes instead of recommending a darker film by default.

Heat inside the cabin

Weak AC, a dirty cabin filter, a failed sunroof shade or leaking seals can keep the cabin hot even with good film. These problems need a separate check.

Night-time visibility

Very dark side or rear film can make pedestrians, kerbs and unlit obstacles harder to see. Balance privacy and glare control with clear sight and the permitted shade.

Interior protection

UV-filtering film can reduce one contributor to fading. Heat, age, cleaning products and direct exposure still affect leather, dashboards and trim.

After installation

Care for your new tint

Light haze or small moisture pockets can appear while the installation dries. The curing period varies by film and conditions; do not press or puncture the film to remove them. We give you the product-specific window and cleaning guidance at handover.

If an edge lifts, catches a seal or gathers dust after curing, arrange an inspection rather than pulling it. Colour shift, distortion and adhesive bubbles later on may indicate ageing or damage.

Common questions

Car window tinting FAQ

Does darker tint always reject more heat?

No. Visible darkness and solar performance are separate properties. Compare the film’s published VLT, TSER and other solar-performance data rather than assuming the darkest film will reject the most heat.

What does VLT mean?

VLT means Visible Light Transmission. It describes the percentage of visible light passing through the combined glass and film. Lower VLT generally produces a darker result.

How do you check whether my tint is permitted?

We check the vehicle category, the windows to be tinted and the proposed film against the requirements that apply when you book. The car’s existing glass also affects the combined result, so a film shade on its own cannot confirm suitability. We agree on a compliant configuration before fitting.

Can old bubbled tint be removed?

Yes, in many cases. The method depends on the film and adhesive condition. Rear glass needs particular care because demister or antenna lines can be damaged by aggressive scraping.

Can I tint over factory privacy glass?

Potentially, but the existing glass already affects visible-light transmission and the final appearance. The combined result should be considered before film is selected.

How long should I keep the windows closed after tinting?

Follow the installer’s guidance for the specific film and conditions. Newly installed moving-window film needs enough time for the upper edge to set before the glass is lowered.

How much does car window tinting cost in Dubai?

For a common sedan, estimated fitted prices are AED 430 to 810 for dyed or carbon film and AED 855 to 1,715 for ceramic film. Larger SUVs or complex glass can be AED 1,145 to 2,285. Old-film removal may add AED 145 to 430. Your quote confirms the film, windows, VAT and final total.
